Refurbished Apple Laptops: Buyer’s Guide 2021

Buying a refurbished Apple laptop is different than buying a used Mac. You might find a lower price from someone reselling their used Mac laptop, but it is not guaranteed to be in excellent condition. It is unlikely the resold laptop has been wiped clean from the previous owner’s digital footprint. Additionally, a problem or issue that caused the owner to sell may rear its head after getting it home a week or so later. By spending a bit more, a certified refurbished Mac is like getting a new computer.

It may sound confusing, as a refurbished Mac is also a pre-owned computer. The difference is that a refurbished Mac is tested by trained professionals and guaranteed to run like new. So you are basically getting a new laptop that comes with a discounted price. (It is similar to buying a used vs. new auto.)

The only catch is that it is unusual to find refurbished Mac laptops that are close to the current generation, as the newer refurbished models get snatched up quickly. Refurbished Macs are extremely popular, which means availability is less common.
